Aquaculture, a fast-growing sector at Maïsadour

With the acquisition of Delmas in 2013, followed by two fish farms three years ago, the Group is stepping up its trout farming activities.

Strategic diversification for Maïsadour

Since 2013, Maïsadour has been listening to the market and evolving its activities by developing its own aquaculture sector. This diversification began with the purchase of the Delmas site in Castets (40) and continued with the acquisition, three years ago, of two fish farms in Finistère.

We have seen an acceleration in the consumption of fish protein since 2022. [...] Aquaculture is an area for the future and a growth driver. In fact, François Bayrou, the French High Commissioner for the Plan, has made it a priority for France's food sovereignty by 2030 “ Nicolas Guilhot, director of the aquaculture sector.

The gamble seems to have paid off, since the Group now controls the entire trouts production chain, from breeding in Bretagne to processing at its historic headquarters in Castets and distribution to supermarkets. Today, Maïsadour’s aquaculture sector employs more than 100 people and has been awarded a prize in the regional “Factory of the Future” program. The year 2024 promises to be a successful one, as the order book is already full.

Langolen, an eco-responsible fish farm

After more than a year’s work, the fish farm at Langolen (Finistère) finally opened its doors to welcome new fish in December 2023. The various technological investments have made this site a leader in France in terms of respect for people, animals and the environment. Now operating on recirculated water with bio-filters, the site considerably limits its consumption and guarantees optimum water quality before it is discharged into the river. These innovations also enable fish to evolve in better conditions, with a respected density and optimized water circulation speed. To meet the challenge of sustainability, the ponds will soon be sheltered by large photovoltaic shades, which will also enable considerable energy savings.

5 000

The Castets site processes 5,000 tonnes of fish (mainly trout and salmon) every year, for just under 3,000 tonnes of finished products.
