Every year in France, the use of animal nutrition products generates 10,000 tonnes of empty packaging: paper bags, plastic bags, big bags, buckets, plastic drums, etc.
To recycle them efficiently and give them a second life, on the 1st of July the animal nutrition sector, through its trade associations, launched VALORALIM, a new packaging collection and recycling scheme.
Sud-Ouest Aliment (SOAL), a Maïsadour subsidiary and the region’s leading animal nutrition company, is a natural partner for VALORALIM. This initiative, the first of its kind in France, has the support of all the representatives of the farming community. It anticipates European obligations to provide a recycling channel by January 2025. VALORALIM “is fully in line with the drive by animal nutrition companies […] to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to the decarbonisation of French livestock farming”, according to its chairman, Pascal Pringault.
This new approach is an additional gesture for the planet and a real ‘plus’ for livestock farmers, who until now have had to fend for themselves. Plant or animal production, the aim is to recycle ever more agricultural waste!
Meticulous preparation for the first collections this autumn
For collection and recycling, VALORALIM, which manages this sector, will be working in partnership with A.D.I.VALOR, the eco-organisation with which Maïsadour has been collaborating for over twenty years.
The first stage in this new approach is to take stock of the volumes of animal nutrition products placed on the market to enable A.D.I.VALOR to anticipate and estimate the quantity of waste to be processed. The next step will be to organise the collection in practical terms: the priority will be to optimise existing collection points as much as possible. Objective : first collections this autumn.
This new approach to recycling our breeders’ packaging complements the system already in place for animal nutrition products for the general public. So 100% of SOAL’s animal nutrition bags will have a recycling solution within a few months!
