As it does every year, Maïsadour met with the Cooperative’s member farmers at several meetings in the Landes department. While many things happened in the poultry and palmiped sectors, here is a look at the key issues that have been discussed.
AVIAN INFLUENZA: A SUCCESS FOR THE ADOUR PLAN, WHILE WAITING FOR THE VACCINE
Initiated by Maïsadour and co-constructed with all stakeholders, the Plan Adour was implemented this winter. Its main measure consisted of a significant reduction in the density of palmiped and poultry production, between December 15 and January 15, in the farms in 68 communes located in risk areas in the Gers, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques departments.
These results were obtained thanks to the involvement of all the players! In parallel with the forthcoming arrival of a vaccination plan, our farmers are determined to remain extremely vigilant in terms of biosecurity, the only solution for preventing the virus.
ANIMAL WELFARE : A REFERENT IN EACH FARM
For Maïsadour, respect for our animals is inseparable from the quality of our products. Since 1 January 2022, an animal welfare officer must be appointed and trained on each farm. Training has been provided to all our farmers for several weeks.
2022 FESTIVE SEASON: A GREAT SEASON FOR MAÏSADOUR
Maison Delpeyrat has regained its colours after several difficult years. The brand confirmed its status as leader for dried and smoked duck breast, and confirmed its emblematic position in the foie gras category (2nd brand for foie gras, 1st for whole foie gras). Delpeyrat has won over the French, who have confirmed their attachment to foie gras for the end-of-year celebrations.
According to a CIFOG/CSA survey of December 2022, more than 90% of them consider that its presence on festive tables is essential.
Poultry has not been outdone, and is still appreciated by our consumers. Fermiers du Sud-Ouest sold more than 350,000 poultries, with the flagship products being yellow capons, guinea fowl and turkey. Thanks to the Adour Plan, the winter period was well controlled, and Fermiers du Sud-Ouest was able to react to the increasing cost of industrial raw materials (energy, cardboard, transport, etc.).
Many farmers came to these meetings and actively participated in the discussions: a symbol of our cooperative model !
